What kind of photo works best?
A clear, high-resolution photo with good contrast works best. For pet portraits, a straight-on or slight 3/4 angle with the subject's face clearly visible gives the best result. Nick will review your photo before starting and let you know if adjustments are needed.
How detailed can the carving be?
CNC carving can capture fine fur texture, hair, and facial features down to about 1/16". The level of detail depends on the photo quality and the size of the piece — larger pieces allow for more fine detail.
What sizes are available?
Portraits typically range from 8"×10" to 18"×24". Custom sizes are available — mention your preference in the quote request.
Can I get a portrait of a person who has passed away?
Yes. Memorial portraits are one of the most meaningful pieces Nick makes. Older or lower-resolution photos can often still be used — include them in your quote request and Nick will assess.
Is the portrait painted or just carved?
The carving is left natural — the depth and shadow of the relief creates the visual contrast. A natural oil or light stain finish enhances the wood grain without adding color. Paint-fill options are available on request.
